3D towed streamer and undershoot, Gabon
Client: Major oil company
Topic: Seismic and navigation processing QCs, acquisition QC, MMO and PAM for 3D towed streamer seismic
Situation
- Provided client representatives, MMOs PAM operators and PAM equipment
- Conduct a 3D towed streamer seismic survey
Challenges
- Undershoots of two platforms offshore Gabon
- Survey area situated in the close proximity to national park
- Shallow and deep water
- Fishing
- Humpback whales would be migrating to the area
Actions
- Seismic and navigation processing QC and liaison between client and contractor
- MMOs, PAM operators and PAM equipment to monitor cetaceans and turtles and shooting operations
- Interim and final reports for seismic processing QC, acquisition QC, navigation processing QC, MMO and PAM
- Seismic processing supervision post seismic acquisition
- Two platforms to be undershot resulting in several single boat close passes, requiring permission from the platforms
- Fresnel zone binning
- MultiSeis Project Manager software was used for production and timing logging and reporting as well as MultiPlot/SurveyWide
- Seismic data QC processing using ProMAX software to produce a suite of standard quality control products
- Four marine mammal observers were deployed so that there was continuous observation, two of which were passive acoustic monitoring observers using PAM equipment supplied by The Geo People
- Fishing was common during part of the survey and the MMOs helped spot fish aggregation devices in the water
Results
- Safe acquisition of acceptable seismic and positioning data
- Fully supervised seismic data processing post acquisition all the way through to the final processed dataset
- No incidences of non-compliance to the JNCC guidelines
