PESGB London Evening Lecture, September 2006


PESGB London Group meeting on 12 September 2006 will have for its London Evening Lecture: 'Global Neoproterozoic Petroleum Systems: Snowballs, Source Rocks and the search for “old oil”' by Jonathan Craig, ENI.

Jonathan obtained a B.Sc. in Geology & Geography at Nottingham University and a Ph.D. in Structural Geology at University College, Aberystwyth. Since entering the oil industry in 1980 he has worked as a structural geologist for Geomorphological Services Ltd and for Shell, as an exploration geoscientist, Exploration Manager and Chief Geologist for LASMO plc. And, since 2001, as the Head of Prospect Validation, Head of Geology and Head of Strategic Exploration Projects for the Eni Exploration & Production Division in London and Milan. He has worked on a wide variety of international exploration and development projects during his career, including overseas assignments in Australia, Tanzania, Indonesia, Pakistan, Colombia, Venezuela, Libya and Italy.

Jonathan is the current Chair of the Petroleum Group of the Geological Society. He is the author of more than 70 other technical papers and books on topics ranging from Exploration Geoscience to Himalayan Steam Railways. He is also a member of the editorial boards of the ‘Journal of Marine & Petroleum Geology’ and ‘Petroleum Geoscience’ and a Non-Executive Director of Getenergy Ltd.

Jonathan serves on the Advisory Boards of CASP Cambridge, CeREES University of Durham, the Energy & Geoscience Institute (EGI) University of Utah, Royal Holloway University of London, and the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge. He is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) House of Delegates, and was the General Chair of the AAPG 2011 International Conference & Exhibition in Milan. He is also the Chair of the Maghreb Petroleum Research Group at University College London and holds Honorary Professorships at University College London, the University of Durham and the Universities of Jammu and of Kashmir in India. He is currently the Vice President, Exploration & Unconventional Resources and Global Exploration Strategy Advisor for the Eni Exploration & Production Division, based in the Eni Head Office in Milan, where he has responsibility for global exploration strategy and external relations.
